In 1994, a Vineyard Worship Pastor, Kelly Carpenter, penned a song amid a life-challenge.

Draw me close to you, is the song.

Here are some of the lyrics:

Draw me close to you
Never let me go
I lay it all down again
To hear you say that I’m your friend
You are my desire
No one else will do
‘Cause nothing else can take your place
To feel the warmth of your embrace
Help me find the way
Bring me back to you

You’re all I want
You’re all I’ve ever needed
You’re all I want
Help me know you are near

You can listen to Kelly Carpenter perform the song here.

As 2024 unfolds, I hear the Lord challenge his church.

The Lord is saying,

Will you ask me to draw you close to me?

Will you lay it all (your worries, cares, burdens) down again (because you have once again picked them up)?

Will you (once again) let me become your desire in life?

Will you let me show you the way into a close personal relationship with me?

Will you let me bring you into the peace of my presence?

God spoke to Jeremiah, the Old Testament, telling him:

“This is God’s Message, the God who made earth, made it livable and lasting, known everywhere as God:

‘Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things you could never figure out alone.’ “   Jeremiah 33:2-3 The Message

God is still calling in 2024.

Will you take the challenge?

Will you be willing to change? Perhaps it is a total radical life change, a 180-degree turn. Or maybe letting go of things you pick up along life’s journey distracts you from a close personal relationship with God.

Will you call on God? As the song says,

Draw me close to you, Lord. I am permitting you to assist me in my journey to a close personal relationship with you. I need your help to get there, and I am asking you to help me.

Will you lay it all down again? The cry is to the unsaved and the backslidden. You did not wake up in the situation you are in. You got there by choices and decisions that moved you in the wrong direction.

Perhaps you did not realize they were the wrong decisions, or maybe you willingly made them.

Will you take the challenge and call out to him?

Draw me close to you, Lord. I am permitting you to assist me in my journey to a close personal relationship with you. I need your help to get there, and I am asking you to help me.

Will you let God become the desire of your life?

The pull of unrighteous things has increased. It is like being a piece of metal close to the magnet. The closer you are, the faster you move towards it.

But the God who created all things created you and placed within you the ability to choose.

Today, you can choose to make God the desire of your life. It isn’t easy and will be challenging because life isn’t easy and very challenging. The difference is you are asking for the help of God your Father.

Will you take the challenge and call out to him?

Draw me close to you, Lord. I am permitting you to assist me in my journey to a close personal relationship with you. I need your help to get there, and I am asking you to help me.

Will you let him show you the way to a close personal relationship with him?

God’s way is not religious. His way is simple, pure, and achievable. It takes your willingness to ask and then obey. It isn’t a magic ride from desperation to destiny. But it is an incredible journey.

Will you take the challenge and call out to him?

Draw me close to you, Lord. I am permitting you to assist me in my journey to a close personal relationship with you. I need your help to get there, and I am asking you to help me.

Will you let him bring you into the peace of his presence?

The peace of his presence is a beautiful tool of God and a tool that is easily wielded. You ask—wholeheartedly, and he answers. You take a step (even a baby step), and he meets you there.

The peace of his presence can be with you anywhere and in any circumstance you find yourself in. God is present and calling you, asking you to ask him for help.

Will you take the challenge and call out to him?

Draw me close to you, Lord. I am permitting you to assist me in my journey to a close personal relationship with you. I need your help to get there, and I am asking you to help me.

Will you take the challenge?
