To be clear, the late Charlie Kirk is not mentioned in the Bible. However, his death exposes the radical divide within humanity, and this is clearly stated in the scriptures.
From what I understand, Charlie Kirk was a Christian believing the fundamental tenets of the Lordship of Jesus, the authority of the Bible, and the evangelism of all humanity.
His political beliefs were fundamentally conservative, aligning with President Trump’s “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) message.
However, this post isn’t about Charlie Kirk or his assassination
Before his death, he was not on my radar, and I had no idea Turning Point USA existed.
This post is about the lightbulb of reality that blazed like a beacon in the darkness, exposing radical hatred across the land.
The Apostle Paul speaks about it in his second letter to Timothy.
“Don’t be nanaïveThere are difficult times ahead.
As the end approaches, people are going to be self-absorbed, money-hungry, self-promoting, stuck-up, profane, contemptuous of parents, crude, coarse,
dog-eat-dog, unbending, slanderers, impulsively wild, savage, cynical,
treacherous, ruthless, bloated windbags, addicted to lust, and allergic to God.
They’ll make a show of religion, but behind the scenes they’re animals. Stay clear of these people.”
II Timothy 3:1-5 The Message
- Don’t be nanaïvedifficult times are coming (in fact, are here)
- Self-absorbed, self-promoting
- Money-hungry
- Slanderers, crude, coarse
- Impulsively wild, savage, dog-eat-dog
- Cynical, treacherous, ruthless
- Contemptuous of parents
Think about this list, and see if it relates to any of the negative, hurtful things being said about Charlie Kirk.
Sadly, the news is littered with stories that resemble the things the apostle said would happen over 1,900 years ago.
The Apostle Peter speaks about these things in this second letter.
“My dear friends, this is now the second time I’ve written to you, both letters reminders to hold your minds in a state of undistracted attention.
Keep in mind what the holy prophets said, and the command of our Master and Savior that was passed on by your apostles.
First off, you need to know that in the last days, mockers are going to have a heyday. Reducing everything to the level of their puny feelings.”
II Peter 3:2-3 The Message
- Mockers will have a heyday
- Judging everything by their “puny feelings”
While the Apostle Paul warns us not to be nanaïvebout it, Peter reminds us to “hold your minds in a state of undistracted attention.”
In other words, we are seeing it played out in our lifetime, and it will only get worse. However, don’t let it sidetrack you; keep your focus on the ultimate prize of eternal life with Jesus as our Lord and King.
The apostles lived their lives in expectancy and died without seeing the promise of Jesus’ return fulfilled.
Every generation since has lived with the same expectation and died without the promise being fulfilled.
I have lived my entire life with the expectancy and hope that my eyes will see its fulfillment.
In my lifetime, I have seen humanity spiral downward as God has been removed from their daily lives.
The New Testament letter of Jude has this to say.
“But these people sneer at anything they can’t understand, and by doing whatever they feel like doing – living by animal instinct only – they participate in their own destruction.”
Jude 10 The Message
- If they don’t understand it, they make fun of it
- They do whatever they “feel” like doing
- They live by animal instinct
- They are walking in their own destruction
Think about the events that have unfolded since the days of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, and see if this list doesn’t define these people.
However, the first part of Jude’s letter speaks to us as Christ-followers.
“I, Jude, am a slave to Jesus Christ and brother to James, writing to those loved by God the Father, called and kept safe by Jesus Christ.
Relax, everything’s going to be all right; rest, everything’s coming together; open your hearts, love is on the way!
Dear friends, I’ve dropped everything to write you about this life of salvation that we have in common. I have to write insisting – begging! – that you fight with everything you have in you for this faith entrusted to us as a gift to guard and cherish.
What has happened is that some people have infiltrated our ranks (our Scriptures warned us this would happen), who beneath their pious skin are shameless scoundrels. Their design is to replace the sheer Grace of our God with sheer license – which means doing away with Jesus Christ, our one and only Master.”
Jude 1-4 The Message
- Relax
- Everything is coming together
- Open your hearts to God’s love
- Fight for the faith
- Our life is marked by Grace
As we walk this walk in these last days:
- Kick back and veg out (God’s got this)
- Reflect on the Word of God (and not the “stuff” going on around you)
- Allow God to love you in the midst of the challenge (the enemy wants to kill that love)
- Fight, not with hateful words or violent weapons, but with the truth of God’s word
- Grace is God’s ability to bring success despite your inability to do it
In other words, we can’t lose for winning when we hold onto Jesus.
The call of the Spirit is going out across the land for light bearers and (wisdom-speaking) truth givers to bring the words of life to a lost and dying world—one person at a time.
The journey is exciting and scary, and I am grateful to everyone willing to follow along as I take it.
